Sleep apnea is one of the most under- recognized disease and many patients stay untreated for long term due to late detection of the problem. People suffering from sleep apnea are not just deprived of quality sleep but they are also oxygen deprived.

Sleep apnea also affects your adrenal health as when you sleep your body is deprived of sufficient amount of oxygen. In such situation where your body needs rest, it is actually working extra. The adrenal glands are actually working when you sleep because there is lack of oxygen flow in your body. This situation further leads to adrenal fatigue. There are many other diseases that may associate with sleep apnea. In addition to adrenal health issues, high blood pressure and kidney disorders are some of the most prominent health problems that can be seen in sleep apnea patients.

Common causes of sleep apnea

  • People with thicker circumference may have narrowed airways or you may have hereditary narrow airways that would further lead to the issue
  • Use of sedatives or alcohol may also lead to the issue
  • If you have habit of smoking then, you should immediately leave it; as smokers tend three times more prominent chances then non-smokers
  • These are some of the external factors that may cause sleep apnea besides, if you are a male or an older person then this can also be the cause of sleep apnea.

Symptoms of sleep apnea

Loud snoring, gasping for air while you are sleeping, waking up with dry mouth or headache, insomnia or hypersomnia, irritability and lack of attention or focus during the daytime are some of the most common symptoms of sleep apnea. Additionally, if someone tells you that you stopped breathing for one or two seconds while sleeping then you are certainly suffering from sleep apnea.

If you have any of the aforementioned symptoms then you should immediately contact your doctor. This problem is easily curable but, if left untreated it may also lead to severe other disease like we mentioned above. Most of all, it will negatively impact your adrenal glands health that will further lead to many major and minor health (hormonal) problems in the body.
