Skin wrinkles, fine lines, sagging and dark spots are the most prominent skin issues and there are many unavoidable reasons behind this. UV rays, blue light, and air pollution are some of the reasons that cannot be avoided but indeed, there are smart skincare products and methods to safeguard your skin from such problems.

Generally, people think that if they are not going out anywhere then their skin will not be affected by external factors but this is not true. Actually, you may face the same issue even if you stay at home most of the time.

Let’s see how it works

The factors like UV rays, blue light and pollution create oxidative damage in the skin. This damage will make your skin more sensitive and any external factor may cause further skin problems. According to Dr. Nhi Le “Oxidative damage happens when the level of harmful free radicals surpasses that of the neutralizing antioxidants in your body”.

Additionally when we talk about external factors then most of us talk about pollution and the sun. Besides, there are many other sources that may lead to severe skin conditions like skin cancer and others. It is important to understand the other external factors along with the sun and pollution! Dr. Le says “your computer screen and phones emit blue light or visible light. In fact, the flashlight of your phone also produces blue light that is harmful to the skin. There are enormous things around us that cause such damage to us and we are still unaware of them. These factors can cause premature aging and many other havoc for the skin.

A study published in Oxidative Medicine and Cellular Longevity in February 2015 suggested that visible or blue light increases the formation of free radicals in the skin. And why just blue light, but, air pollution can also be equally harmful to the skin. Dr. Chwalek, whose statement is supported by data cited in a review published in Dermato-Endocrinology said: “Exposure to air pollution, which includes particulate matter, nitrogen As the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) warns dioxide, hydrocarbons, and ozone, creates oxidative damage in the skin that increases inflammation,”.

Actually, when you search for the factors for skin problems, you will find endless reasons and factors that support the problem. Rather, we should talk about the safeguards for the skin.

8 tried and tested methods against such odds for skin:

1. Mineral Sunscreen gives miraculous results against Sun Damage. They are a bit more aggressive in protecting the skin from UV rays. Generally, we prefer sunscreen with high SPF’s; they are indeed helpful but also absorb a little light that is why an absolute blocker/ mineral sunscreen gives the optimum result.

2. Tinted Sunscreen can do double duty for the skin. This sunscreen with SPF is better. It blocks blue light and UV rays at the same time. Iron oxides are devised into tinted sunscreens. It is the ingredient that guards skin from harmful light spectrum.

3. Functional Powder best for On-the-Go Sun Protection. Most of all, they are very effective and can be reapplied in office, restaurants or anywhere else over your existing makeup.

4. If you don’t like tinted primers, then get the red algae that will guard the skin against blue light.

5. According to research published in August 2017 in the journal Nutrients one should go for the products that blend with both Vitamins C and E (in the Morning).  As “Antioxidants neutralize the free radicals that are prematurely breaking down collagen and elastin,” says Dr. Le.

6.  Antioxidants like Glutathione and Resveratrol have their place at night. They can help repair damage done during the day. They pacify free radicals, glutathione, another potent antioxidant that addresses dark spots to even tone.

7. Remember to wash the daily dirt and grime on the skin before going to bed. You can use a gentle cleanser for the skin that will exfoliate the skin and keep the skin barriers intact.

8. There are products using a plant-based antimicrobial peptide that targets toxins with oligopeptide-10 or uses idebenone, an antioxidant that clears up environmental damages.
